Key responsibilities:
Merchandising strategy and planning:
- Develop and implement merchandising strategies for the division in line with company goals and objectives.
- Create seasonal and annual merchandising plans, including sales projections and inventory planning.
- Identify key trends and opportunities within the market and leverage them to enhance product offerings.
Product selection and curation:
- Oversee the selection of garments and accessories, ensuring alignment with current fashion trends and customer preferences.
- Analyse historical sales data and conduct market research to guide buying decisions.
- Collaborate with design and product development teams to create exclusive products or improve existing lines.
Inventory management:
- Monitor inventory levels and plan replenishments to maintain an appropriate stock balance.
- Manage the flow of goods to optimize sales while minimizing overstock and markdowns.
- Implement strategies for inventory clearance and end-of-season sales.
Sales and performance analysis:
- Analyse sales data, customer feedback, and market trends to assess the performance of products and adjust plans accordingly.
- Work with finance and operations teams to ensure financial targets and operational goals are met.
- Identify opportunities for product optimization and promotional activities.
Vendor and supplier relationships:
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers.
- Negotiate favourable terms, including pricing, delivery, and payment terms.
- Monitor vendor performance and resolve any issues related to quality, delivery, or other concerns.
Team leadership and development:
- Lead and mentor a team of buyers and merchandisers, providing guidance and support for their growth and development.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Foster a collaborative and positive work environment.
Pricing and promotion strategy:
- Develop and implement pricing strategies that maximize sales and profitability.
- Coordinate with marketing teams to plan and execute promotions and advertising campaigns.
- Monitor the competitive landscape to ensure pricing remains competitive and aligned with market trends.
Brand representation and customer focus:
- Ensure the division's merchandise aligns with the company's brand identity and values.
- Monitor customer feedback and adjust merchandise plans to meet customer needs and preferences.
- Collaborate with the visual merchandising team to create appealing displays that drive sales.
Budget and financial management:
- Manage the division's budget, including forecasting, tracking expenses, and optimizing resource allocation.
- Work with finance teams to ensure profitability targets are achieved.
Trend forecasting and market research:
- Stay informed of industry trends, emerging fashion styles, and market developments.
- Use trend forecasting and market research to guide strategic planning and decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in fashion merchandising, business, or related field.
- Proven experience of 10 to 15 years in a merchandising leadership role within the BAGS industry.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with sales data analysis.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
- Deep understanding of the garments market and fashion trends.
- Proficiency with merchandising software and inventory management tools.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing market conditions.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
